Through the darkest hours, light still shines

So while I was observing the moon, I wondered "What was so hypnotic about the moon, that brings people together?" In some instances I have heard phrases, for example someone in the military told their girlfriend to not worry "I will back; just know that when you're looking at the moon, just know that we're looking at the same moon"(Dear John). In a personal experience, before my brother, Jacob, died, he told me, "If I die, I will never be gone, just look at the night sky and I will be always staring down at you, protecting you." I chose the moon to observe, because I think of my brother as the moon always watching over me. I think the reason why the moon is so hypnotic or used for a symbol of life is because thoughout the darkness the moon shines out, meaning through the darkest hours light still shines.

  1. This is lovely. I think we focus on the moon because it's one of those universal occurances (not universal but global) that we all witness--a unifier.

  2. I agree with Mrs Farias, and yes the moon is significant and important to some people, have you seen "Under the Same Moon"? it's similar to the military but more about immigrant families that leave their children in Mexico. I like your post, and how you chose the moon. :)

  3. I always thought the moon looked lonely, one of a kind, not prettier than the stars--but certainly brighter. It makes me happy to think how many people love the moon for reasons their own that the moon is a symbol of love instead of loneliness.

  4. I really like how you added sentimental value because I'm sure this really motivates you to observe and learn more about the moon since it might bring you closer to you brother. I have always thought the moon is beautiful and it's crazy that no matter where you are in the world you will always see the same moon.
